DJ P1E - Rapture Alright, techno's not usually my jam but this is a great piece of work.
The Good:
Great melody; it's a simple theme but with great variety throughout. You managed to tell a story, using a good choice of synths and instruments, with none of them fighting for headroom. There was no period where it felt like it dragged, so good job. Composition gets a solid 5/5.
Voicing was great. The variety of instruments chosen was good, with a couple of minor points I'll mention later. Nothing felt forced either, sections like 2.03 are great transitions that keep the piece flowing. Mix is good, everything's balanced and sits in place well.
The Bad:
There's only 2 really minor things I'd point out. One is the bass drum; it's pretty loud and you can hear the compressor kicking in in periods (e.g around 2.42) dropping the audio down briefly. I'm aware that this is quite a common thing in lots of electronic music, but it can become quite fatiguing for those of us who have destroyed our ears over the years, especially for an extended period of time.
The only other thing is the piano; I found it to be a little quiet, bright and dry. Personally, I'd smash the bass up in the eq and add some verb, but this is a mere opinion.
This is some great stuff, and like I said Techno's not usually my jam, but I'm definitely looking forward to hearing the rest of this EP!
